This filler metal is
used for welding Type 316 and similar alloys. It has been used successfully in certain applications involving special base
metals for high-temperature service.
The presence of molybdenum provides creep resistance at elevated temperatures and
pitting resistance in a halide atmosphere. This alloy has a low carbon content which makes it particularly recommended where there is a risk of intergranular corrosion. 316L is widely applied in the chemical and food processing industries as well as in ship building and various types of architectural structures.
