These consumables are used to weld 317/317L austenitic stainless steels. Well-suited for difficult corrosion conditions encountered e.g. in the chemical industry, flue gas
desulfurization, seawater desalination and particularly in the pulp & paper and textile industry. Applications include marine, papermaking, chemical process and food processing applications. Also suitable to overmatch 316/316L steels; the benefit of higher Mo content in the weld metal maximizes the pitting resistance and crevice resistance in severely corrosive environments. Excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking as well as high pitting resistance. Service
temperature from –120°C to 300°C. These molybdenum-alloyed steels need
to be welded with some care.
Subsequent passes may cause precipitates
of secondary phases in the weld
metal. For this reason, a low heat input is suggested, max. 1.5 kJ/mm, and interpass temperature max. 150°C.
Post-weld heat treatment generally not needed. In special cases, solution annealing can be performed at 1080 –
1130°C followed by water quenching.
Alloy type
The nominal composition (wt. %) of alloy is 19.5 Cr, 14 Ni, 3.5 Mo, similar but more alloyed than ER316.
Microstructure
The fillers are
fully-austenitic and slightly over-alloyed.
